This May SEK Budapest Team participated in Cultural Intersek 2016 in Quito, Ecuador where the students had an opportunity to represent their country and school, meet students from different countries, and have a close encounter with the new culture.
SEK Budapest International School is a trilingual, English, Hungarian and Spanish private school that belongs to the IES / SEK chain of international schools. It offers challenging national and international educational programs like IB Diploma Program, student exchanges under the School’s International Program, and regular study tours to USA, UK, and Spain.
Every year students ages between 13 and 16 can take part in Intersek – a sporting and/or cultural gathering and competition attended by one of the IES or SEK schools around the world. Recent hosts have included Chile, Paraguay, and the Dominican Republic. This year’s organizer was Quito, Ecuador. The main objective of this event is to create a unique experience based on respect among the different SEK / IES communities while fostering a healthy learning environment, cultural exchange, and competition. This is an activity that marks deeply the students involved in it because of the relationships that take place among youngsters of different countries, cultures, and languages, as well as for the correlations established within them. Also, it permits the students to expand their international culture and growth while traveling, allowing them to feel safe in any circumstance of future life.
SEK Budapest sent a delegation of 13 students who experienced this amazing cultural and sporting program. During a whole week, these students took part in exciting and interesting contests ranging from chess tournaments to a Lip dub video competition, from home-made rocket construction to solving the mystery of the church in Guápulo.
Our SEK Budapest Team was absolutely prosperous in these events. They won two first places, one in the Mathematical Contest and one in the Trivia Crack Contest. The Mathematic Competition consisted of 3 phases in which participants had to reason, use logic and solve exercises. The Trivia Crack Contest was built on general knowledge about History, Art, Sport, and Movies.
All the teachers, students, and families here in SEK Budapest are very proud of the participating Team’s successes in Ecuador.
SEK Budapest considers that the student and his or her world provides the context for all activity and learning within the organization which, in turn, respects each student as an individual, looks to discover and encourage his or her personal abilities, and works to ensure their full development.
